Shelley Laine - State Fair of Texas

Most of you know unless I am shooting your portrait or wedding my real love is shooting performing arts. Here are a few shots from last week. I shot them twice since they have a different lead player on weekends and weekdays.

Shelley Laine is an accomplished Texas singer songwriter, the keyboard player was just a nut. I don't have one of him I'm posting but he is the master at crazy "guitar" face.

They performed on the Bud Light stage for 3 weeks, every day starting at 2:00pm and finishing at 9:00PM.

Anyway these was a bunch of fun....

Mom is doing great

Just an update on a personal note. Mom had major back surgery yesterday and everything went extremely well. Over the last several years she has really struggled with pain and immobility.

They removed a cyst that was in her spine which stopped the flow of spinal fluid, put in a few rods and pins.

Recovery will be slow but all of her friends at the hospital are taking great care of her.

For those who don't know Mom went to nursing school at Methodist Hospital in Oak Cliff and graduated in the late 50's. She worked her entire career there and retired about 4 years ago. Needless to say she was and still is an icon not only in the surgery area but the entire hospital. She did it all from heart surgery to some of the earliest transplant procedures.

She assembled her own "dream team" to do this procedure on her back and it looks like everything went great!

Thanks for all the prayers....now the hard work and rehab begins!

Sherrah & John

I really had a blast shooting Sherrah and John last night. It took a little time to get John loosened up...ok it actually took a couple of margaritas!

These guys are just such a fantastic couple, we had a little trouble getting the hotel shot! I think we are able to get out of there before the night lady called the police! What fun!

Here are a few of the shots from last night. I'm really looking forward to shooting the outdoor wedding at Heritage Ranch Country Club a week from Saturday!

Sorry if some of the pics look a little skewed, I've got to work on the sizing for this blog as they tend to mess up the look! Enjoy for now and I'll replace them later!

August DDPA Award

I was fortunate again to present a piece of my work at the Dallas Professional Photographers Association this Tuesday evening.
Jon Christopher Davis, who you may have seen in the August issue, had me take some shots for his record label. This image was entered in the commercial category and received a blue ribbon.
I don't know if it was because it was a nice shot or because Jon is such a handsome dude
Here is the image!

Dustin Perkins & JCD @ Love and War in Texas

Thursday night I needed a night out just to relax. A cold Shiner and some Texas music, it just does not get any better!
Jon Christopher Davis was playing at Love and War in Texas in Plano. Jon does more to support up and coming artist then anyone I've ever met.
To no surprise Jon had a great new talent join him up on stage. Justin played a few of his songs, a couple of covers and then Jon jumped up and played bass. Watch out for this kid as he is amazing. A great guitar player and a fabulous vocalist, a real talent!
